Sepp Hasslberger: High Pressure Water Systems Releases Hydrogen Bonds, Produces Energy

Richard Aho of MIST Energy Systems has been working for years on the idea that hydrogen bond energy could be harnessed. He went on working where others had abandoned the field because they knew it “couldn't be done”.

In his Mist Energy System, water is pressurized by a commercially available high pressure pump, it is then released through a nozzle into an impact chamber, where the jet hits a metal target. Heat is released and the water instantly transforms into steam. The energy spent to pressurize the water and pre-heat the impact chamber is about one tenth of the energy contained in the steam that is produced. That is a 10:1 over-unity factor, achieved with nothing but available tech and water as a medium.

Of course steam is what has been driving our electricity-producing machines for a long time. The heat is usually supplied by burning carbon fuels like coal, oil or gas. Even atomic power plants are little more than very expensive – and rather dangerous – steam engines fired by the heat of radioactive elements.

So if we could make the needed steam without recourse to carbon based or atomic fuels, would that not be a giant step forward?

I believe it would, and the technology is available.

Read full post for details about the engine.

Phi Beta Iota:  Buried in the small print are severe shortcomings in intelligence support to strategy, policy, acquisition, and operations around the world; TRANSCOM thinking that Guam comprises a long-haul strategy; the Arctic uncovered and the Antarctic ignored; and at the very end, a tiny mention of the alternative concept of joint inter-agency commands–and of course no mention at all of the key concepts of Network-Enabled Capabilities, OSE (technical solution) and M4IS2 (human solution).  The new National Security Advisor is inheriting a gawd-awful mess that is out of control, out of money, out of imagination and out of integrity.

Pakistan: Pakistan's National Assembly on Wednesday formally elected Nawaz Sharif as prime minister. Sharif, 63, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, was elected by an overwhelming majority. He received 244 of the 317 votes cast by assembly members. Many parties voted en bloc for Nawaz Sharif to curry favor with the new government.

President Zardari administered the oath of office at President House.

Prime Minister Sharif delivered a brief speech on the floor of the National Assembly after his election. He said, “The chapter of drone attacks on the country's soil should now be closed. As we respect others' sovereignty, ours should also be given respect. This campaign must come to an end.”

He also addressed Pakistan's many problems. In Churchillian fashion, he said he would not make attractive promises to the masses nor talk about any imaginary heaven on earth. He openly sided with the productive forces of the country agriculture, industry and exports, as the keys for economic revival. He said he would tolerate no corruption and nepotism and that the doors of dictatorship had been closed forever.

The only foreign country mentioned was China. The Prime Minister said he would form a study group to work on establishing a rail link to western China from Karachi and the Arabian Sea port of Gwadar via the Khunjerab Pass in the north. He plans to give free port status to the Chinese built and now managed new port of Gwadar in western Pakistan.

SUM OF ALL FEARS:

  • Idiots in politics
  • Ignorance in business
  • Apathetic about warnings
  • Arrogance about Preparation

Nothing serious will happen if accurate forecasting of the solar storm is done. If we shut down all power grids during the solar storm, nothing will happen. Put the satellites into the Safe Mode and they are all safe.

Furthering Free and Online Education

The Washington Post reports on a hot topic in education these days: online education. No, this recent article does not simply feature a rundown of online education courses, it delves into the next step: free online text books. The headline reads: “Coursera to Offer Students Free Online Textbooks, with Conditions.”

Coursera, of course, is one of the online providers offering free educational courses online. Textbooks are a logical next step. The have struck a partnership with several publishers to enable students to use certain textbooks for free while they take the courses. Publishers include Cengage Learning, Macmillan Higher Education, Oxford University Press, SAGE and Wiley will be available through e-readers provided by Chegg.

The article states:

“Koller said the agreement will help instructors who felt restricted in what they could require students to read. She also said it will help publishers market full versions of their books to those interested in buying them. Coursera, based in Mountain View, Calif., launched in April 2012, and the company has more than 3 million registered users. Along with edX and Udacity, it is one of the most prominent MOOC providers in a fast-emerging market. Cynthia L. Selfe, an English professor at Ohio State University, said the textbook agreement will benefit thousands who are taking a MOOC on Coursera that she teaches with a group of faculty.”

Does this article suggest that there are more challenges for traditional publishers or is this an opportunity for companies trying to grow and running out of options? The jump from $500 million to $1 billion is a big job.

Could CrowdOptic Be Used For Disaster Response?

Crowds—rather than sole individuals—are increasingly bearing witness to disasters large and small. Instagram users, for example, snapped 800,000 #Sandy pictures during the hurricane last year. One way to make sense of this vast volume and velocity of multimedia content—Big Data—during disasters is with PhotoSynth, as blogged here. Another perhaps more sophisticated approach would be to use CrowdOptic, which automatically zeros in on the specific location that eyewitnesses are looking at when using their smartphones to take pictures or recording videos.

“Once a crowd’s point of focus is determined, any content generated by that point of focus is automatically authenticated, and a relative significance is assigned based on CrowdOptic’s focal data attributes […].” These include: (1) Number of Viewers; (2) Location of Focus; (3) Distance to Epicenter; (4) Cluster Timestamp, Duration; and (5) Cluster Creation, Dissipation Speed.” CrowdOptic can also be used on live streams and archival images & videos. Once a cluster is identified, the best images/videos pointing to this cluster are automatically selected.
