Phi Beta Iota: Egypt is a lever for the Assisi Peace Summit.

1)  Against dictators and corruption, inter-faith dialog and coordinated action is HAPPENING.

2)  The connected young are the antidote to radical violent Islamic fundamentalism.

3)  Muslim demographics must be understood by all Catholics and Protestants

4)  The Church can be a central force for Open Spectrum, Open Source Software, Open Source Intelligence, and Open Society–imagine, in a revolution, all churches and mosques as sources of wireless solar and wind-powered information that cannot be shut down, that collaborate to avoid inter-faith violence and promote non-violent “presence” in the streets to overturn the 44 dictators and demand the withdrawal of all foreign military forces….

5)  Revolutions are no longer national–the diasphoras matter–the global presence of the Church matters from local to national.

6)  The hypocrisy of the USA is now fully revealed–Barack Obama made 500 promises to the American people he has not fulfilled, and he dares to suggest to anyone that they honor their promises?  It is time for the Church to recognize that the people are the sovereign power, not governments, and that the Church can profit much more from a free people creating wealth than from absolving corruption by governments and corporations and crime families.

7)  Liberation Theology is back–it must be elevated by the Most Holy Father NOW.

2012 is not the year of apocalypse, it is the year of awakening when the meek inherit the earth.  The time between now and Assisi and from Assisi on is strategically priceless, in our collective view.

Seven Answers–Robert Steele in Rome

About the Idea, Articles & Chapters, Media Reports

The Questions:

1) Mr. Steele, you co-founded Earth Intelligence Network. Which are its main objectives?

2) You created the concepts of Smart Nation, Information Arbitrage, and Information Peacekeeping. May you explain them briefly?

3) You also point to the need of a faith-based global intelligence exchange. What do you mean?

4) When you speak about the sharing across the eight “tribes” of intelligence (academia, civil society, commercial, government, law enforcement, media, military, non-profit), which specific approach to intelligence do you suggest?

5) You argue that proper use of intelligence material derived from open sources (OSINT) could replace some of the more secret (and expensive) aspects of intelligence collection, claiming that “OSINT will displace 80% of the dollars devoted to secret sources and methods…”. But is OSINT really intelligence?

6) A close relationship between intelligence and diplomacy always existed. Which do you think should be the evolution of this relationship to counter the emerging threats and specifically the role of intelligence services in backing the negotiating and mediating efforts of governments?

7) Wild Card…

Open Source Insurgency: No More Corruption

A Plausible Promise

by John Robb of Global Guerrillas

For an open source revolt (here's some background on “open source insurgency“) to be successfully formed, it needs a plausible promise.  A meta issue around which all of the different factions etc. can form (remember, most of the groups and individuals involved in an open source revolt can't agree on anything but some basic concepts).  A generic “day of revolt” doesn't accomplish that. What could?

Using the multi-million scale No Mas FARC protests as an example and the critical ingredient in the Tunisian protests (extreme corruption that generated an endless wellspring of anger/frustration), a potential “plausible promise” for an Egyptian open source revolt is:

No More Corruption

Not only is a movement opposing corruption something the government will find hard to oppose, it is something every Egyptian deals with on a daily basis.  It also has the added benefit of directly harming the entrenched ruling elite, who are likely to become poster children of the very thing the movement is against.

Diversity Magic–Breakthrough Possible

About the Idea, Communities of Practice, Cultural Intelligence
Tom Atlee

Diversity, like fire, is a powerful part of life. Let us use it well on our shared journey, weaving our unique stories into new possibilities around the great shared fire of life.

DIVERSITY IS AS BIG AS THE UNIVERSE

by Tom Atlee

SUMMARY

Our use of the word “diversity” primarily to address issues of
racism, classism, sexism, and other oppressive isms has blinded us to the fact that diversity is a vast fact of life, deeply embedded not only in humanity but in natural systems and in the very fabric of the universe.

Diversity, like fire and genius, can be problematic. And like
fire and genius, diversity has creative power we can use to
make life better.

Journal: In Defense of RSS–Does USIC OSC “Get” RSS?

About the Idea, Blog Wisdom

In defense of RSS

Lots of buzz today about RSS (dying or not dying).

If you're not using it, can I strongly suggest you give it a try? I use Newsfire. Not sure the particular readers matters, though.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. It's not particularly difficult to keep up with 200 blogs you care about in less than hour using an RSS reader.
  2. RSS provides home delivery. Instead of remembering where to click, or waiting for a post to get all buzzy and hot, the good stuff comes to you. Automatically and free.
  3. Subscribing to a blog is easy. Just click here for my blog, for example. In Newsfire, you can paste the URL of any blog and it automatically finds the RSS feed for you.

RSS is quiet and fast and professional and largely hype-free. Perhaps that's why it's not the flavor of the day.

Phi Beta Iota: The Public Daily Brief done by Winston Maike (RIP) out of Australia can be seen at the Archives.  With his death and the economic crash we had to discontinue–but on a shoestring, we covered all ten threats, all twelve policies, all eight demogrpahics, once a week, in eight pages, AND a single one page presidential-level summary for all 30 factors.  6,000 people were receiving that weekly document.  OCS/FBIS does not offer anything helpful to Whole of Government–if they did, they would have focused on RSS to individual action officers across all the Departments and agencies, with the added value of using that to bond classified subject matter experts with the larger community of open source experts through  the non-intelligence action officers.  100 T-1 lines into an existing septic tank does not impress us.
