It never occurred to me, when I lost the first bureaucratic battle on Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) in 1992, that my innate sense of  integrity [do the right thing] would lead me to resign from the Marine Corps civil service in 1993 as a very young GM-14, and spend not five, not ten, but twenty years wandering in the wilderness helping over 66 governments and over 7,500 mid-career officers get a grip on sources and methods the traditional secret services refused to consider and the traditional consumers of intelligence did not know how to do.  Of all my student bodies, the USA was the worst, remaining ignorant at the leadership level, helpless at the follower level–butts in seats, no brain required.  Hence, as we approach a historic turning point, the possibility that we might have a Secretary of State and a Secretary of Defense that can actually get a grip on reality together, I thought it might be useful to offer up three things I have learned during my 20-year walk-about:

Limits and Potentials of the Developing Countries in Global Governance

Inclusive global governance is one of the on-going efforts of the developing countries in this fast changing and complicated world. This is a process that started in the 1960s and will continue for many years to come.

I. Current Roles of the Developing Countries in Global Governance. Among all the roles, the following three stand out prominently. (1) They are the promoters of the UN centrality and democratization of international relations. Actually they are evolutionary reformers of the existent mechanisms. (2) They are invigorators of new mechanisms to cope with new challenges of our times, both institutionally and conceptually. A case in point is their role of G-20 by pursuing consultation and cooperation with the developed countries during the ongoing financial crisis and economic difficulties. (3) They are initiators of mechanisms of developing/emerging powers, such as the BRICS. The forming of BRICS reflects the shifting distribution of powers and upgrading of the developing countries.

Telling the truth to those who have replaced intelligence with ideology and integrity with loyalty to something other than their Republic is most difficult and more often than not will get you fired, because those without integrity tend to be promoted in corrupt systems, and they see clearly the threat to their world-view — and their perks — of someone who persists in pointing out that the truth at any cost reduces all other costs.

Below is a complement to my earlier posting of 15 November 2012: 2012 Robert Steele: Addressing the Seven Sins of Foreign Policy — Why Defense, Not State, Is the Linch Pin for Global Engagement.

Reform can be job and revenue neutral from state to state and district to district — and is of course subject to Congressional oversight via the authorization and appropriations process.  Below are seven truths about the US military that I would like to see introduced into the hearings on the confirmation of the next Secretary of Defense, and ideally also tasked to the Congressional Research Service (CRS), where the senior specialist for each of the major services is capable of validating my views.

Israeli death squads involved in Sandy Hook bloodbath: Intelligence analyst

by Gordon Duff and Press TV

Veterans Today, 19 December 2012

In truth, the public may well just be sick of hearing stories about “lone gunmen.”  Of all possible horrors, this one, even more than the Benghazi killings, is loaded with political implication, not just “gun control,” but a clear attack on the security of every American family.

Today, Michael Harris, former Republican candidate for governor of Arizona and GOP campaign finance chairman, in an internationally televised news broadcast, cited “Israeli revenge” in, what he called, “the terrorist attack in Connecticut.”

Harris cited Israeli “rage” against the US and against President Barack Obama. By “Israel,” we mean “Netanyahu.”

The mission was to teach America a lesson, knowing that “America would take the punishment, keep “quiet,” and let a ‘fall guy’ take the blame.”

Phi Beta Iota: We have no direct knowledge but agree that there is no way an autistic kid did this and then made the rifle disappear after he was suicided.  Who exactly (no fewer than two others and probably three) remains to be established.  With regard to Michael Harris' assertions, we would only observe that anyone who doubts the venality of Zionists (not the average Jew) need look no further than the USS Liberty. The murderous attack by Israeli forces in unmarked aircraft and patrol boats killed 34 and wounded 171 US sailors.  It was covered up by order of the President at the time, and that cover-up maintained for years there-after, threatening the families of those killed and wounded by Israel with loss of benefits and pensions if they talked.  We tend to doubt the Israeli connection, but we will never, ever, forget the USS Liberty as the defining perfidy in Israel's view of the USA as a shiksa that does not count.

Document:  Envisioning 2030: US Strategy for a Post-Western World (Atlantic Council, 10 December 2030)

Executive Summary

Agree that we are at a potentially historic transition point.  However, the Atlantic Council lacks the strategic analytic model to make the most of its otherwise formidable brain trust.  Agree on the need for a new mental map, but they chose the wrong map.  See the HourGlass Strategy as an alternative (also below the line).

The report misses multiple big possibilities including the eight tribes, M4IS2, and OSE.

1. Frame second-term policies from a more strategic and long-term perspective, recognizing the magnitude of the moment and the likelihood that the United States’ actions now will have generational consequences.

Absolutely.  Understanding emergent public governance trends rooted in true cost and whole system analytics, which harness the distributed intelligence of the five billion poor, not in this report.

2. Continue to emphasize what has been called “nation-building at home” as the first foreign policy priority, without neglecting its global context.

Left unsaid is the need to establish a plan, coincident with the creation of a 450-ship Navy, a long-haul Air Force, and an air-liftable Army, to close most of our military bases around the world, and bring all of our troops – and their purchasing power – home.

Eagle: We MUST Control Baseball Bats

Offbeat Fun, Officers Call
300 Million Talons...
300 Million Talons…

Phi Beta Iota strongly supports the registration of all baseball bats, and licensing of the right to own a bat, together with mandatory training in the safe use of a baseball bat.  The training should be repeated every two years, as unsafe habits can creep back in without the strictest government oversight and micro-management of the extremely serious threat to our obese children that are too slow to run away from a crazed lunatic weilding a lethal baseball bat.  This is of such great importance to our nation that we would like to see the Department of Homeland Security propose a Baseball Bat Authority (BBA), make that a model, and then move down the lethality pecking order to create separate new Authorities for the control of hockey sticks, lacross sticks, tennis rackets, and so on.  Eventually handball players should be required to register their hands and demonstrate safe hand use practices.

We Must Stop Baseball Bat Violence!

By Mark R. Ferran, BSEE

A Message from the Coalition to Stop Bat Violence. (Formerly known as the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence).

Setting: The Year 2020, six months after the last privately-owned gun was found and destroyed. We have finally made All Americans (including intruders) Safe from Gun Violence in Americans' Homes. But we must continue our struggle to make All Americans safe from Violence in homes and businesses, and on the streets.

“Adolpho Hernandez was executed today for the Sept. 30, 1988, robbery and murder of 69-year-old Elizabeth Alvarado who was beaten to death with a baseball bat bat inside her Lubbock, Texas, home.” (“Elizabeth's family was again devastated one year later, when Elizabeth's granddaughter, Melissa Ann Garcia, was raped and stabbed to death by Texas death row inmate Jack Wade Clark.”
