How many times has the West encouraged rebels–going back to the Warsaw ghettos–only to leave them to die in the lurch?  When motives are less than pure, both those being supported and those doing the supporting are on shaky moral ground, and opening Pandora's Box, which always includes third parties with their own agendas, empowered by Western destabilization to muck about on their own.

Phi Beta Iota:  This is complete documentation of a massive atrocity to which the US Government is a co-conspirator.  There is absolutely no question but that Ford Motor Company executives–including the Board of Directors–should be indicted and investigated.    There is also no question but that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) “leadership” then and now should be investigated.  Sadly, Congress is itself impeachable.  The US Government (and the two parties that front for Wall Street) are NOT the public's friend–they are bought and paid for–CORRUPT.  We are long overdue for “The Virgin Truth” as a brand able to provide intelligence with integrity in the public interest.

Phi Beta Iota: As we contemplate the all too real likelihood that Leon Panetta lied to the President of the United States of America on behalf of the military-industrial complex, the urgency of effecting a Strategic Analytic Model capable of creating and assuring truth–creating public intelligence in the public interest–has never been greater.  This is the single non-violent common sense means of restoring balance and harmony–creating a prosperous world at peace.  If there is one individual who could, should, and does represent integrity in Washington, D.C., that person is LtGen Dr. Brent Scowcroft, USAF (Ret).  He's hung his head over not challenging Dick Cheney, now is the time for him to step up to the plate and sponsor a joint endeavor between the Program for National Security Reform (PNSR) led by Hon. Jim Locher and Adm Dennis Blair, USN (Ret); and the Woodrow Wilson Center led by Director Jane Harman and under the larger rubric of the Carnegie Endowment for Peace led by President Jessica Tuchman Matthews.  At this unique moment in time, five people named above have the power to get America–and the world–back on track.  A short overview of the possibilities has been posted as reference online (second item below).

Video: Changing the World, One Map at a Time

Hosted in the beautiful city of Berlin, Re:publica 2011 is Germany's largest annual conference on blogs, new media and the digital society, drawing thousands of participants from across the world for three days of exciting conversations and presentations. The conference venue was truly a spectacular one and while conference presentations are typically limited to 10-20 minutes, the organizers gave us an hour to share our stories. So I'm posting the video of my presentation below for anyone interested in learning more about new media, crowdsourcing, crisis mapping, live maps, crisis response, civil resistance, digital activism and check-in's. I draw on my experience with Ushahidi and the Standby Volunteer Task Force (SBTF) and share examples from Kenya, Haiti, Libya, Japan, the US and Egypt to illustrate how live maps can change the world.
