Gates: No good intel on Osama bin Laden in years

Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the United States has not had good intelligence on the whereabouts of terrorist Osama bin Laden in years.  Gates made the comment in an interview to be aired Sunday on ABC's “This Week.”

The Counter-Revolution In Military Affairs I (2009)

“April 2004 in Iraq is when the lightbulb really went off for me,” Dempsey, now the four-star commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, said in an interview. “Here we were, an Army that prided itself on being on the absolute leading edge of technology, of being able to see first, understand first, and if necessary shoot first; and suddenly we were facing these simultaneous uprisings that none of us saw coming!

We all had this moment like, ‘Wow, I just didn't see that coming!' That didn't mean we should abandon our constant search for new technology to enable us, but it did suggest that relying too heavily on technology in this era was dangerous. In April 2004 in Iraq, technology was less important than understanding anthropology and sociology and what was on the minds of Iraqis on the street.”

The Counter-Revolution in Military Affairs (2007)

This degree of enthusiasm for RMA did not long survive the first flush of triumph.  After several years of grueling guerrilla warfare in the Middle East, US strategists are now re-learning the fundamental lessons of Vietnam: that guerilla war is a political, not merely a military, struggle; that technology, no matter how sophisticated or lethal, cannot defeat a determined popular resistance; that resistance fighters draw their power from the sympathies and co-operation of the people.

The Counter-Revolution in Military Affairs (2006)

REVOLUTIONS NOTORIOUSLY IMPRISON THEIR MOST committed supporters. Intellectually, influential elements within our military are locked inside the cells of the Revolution in Military Affairs–the doctrinal cult of the past decade that preaches that technological leaps will transcend millennia-old realities of warfare.

The Counter-Revolution in Military Affairs (1999)

But what if the optimistic projections are wrong? For a start, as some authors have noted, the technologies in question are likely to be of, at best, very limited use in situations like Haiti, Somalia, or Chechenya, which are the most likely type of conflict we will face for at least the immediate future [4]. Further, these new technologies are likely to be of limited use in urban scenarios, such as Beirut.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond 6 Stars–And a Seventh for Accessible Pricing

Peter A. Corning
I could spend a lifetime reading and re-reading this book, and each of the cited sources, and not waste the time at all. This is one of the most extraordinary works I have encountered, and while I cannot do it justice, I will summarize it. Four other books that join this one in framing my third and last stage of life:
Consilience: The Unity of Knowledge
Nonzero: The Logic of Human Destiny
A More Secure World: Our Shared Responsibility–Report of the Secretary-General's High-level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change
The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid, Revised and Updated 5th Anniversary Edition: Eradicating Poverty Through Profits

Bottom line: Humanity can evolve, must evolve, and the Whole Earth, Co-Evolution concepts that Stewart Brand and others pioneered (not mentioned here), that indigenous people's everywhere have understood for centuries, are a natural path for us all. We *can* create a prosperous world at peace.

Short version of the book: Synergy is cool again, synergy and self-organization complement each other and are distinct; bioeconomics is hugely important and supports the premise that the whole is larger than the sum of the parts and that interactions and exchanges can and should be done for the whole, “beyond selfishness,” cybernetics rules, information is the space between, and ethics is both a form of cybernetics and a cultural adaptation that helps the whole evolve and persist.

The Big Question: Does ‘climate-gate' matter politically?

Of course ClimateGate matters politically, and the damage has only begun.  This won't help their electoral prospects. It also has ramifications for health care: If you can't trust them on global warming, can you trust them on cancer screenings?

Obama Ignores ‘Climate-Gate' in Revising Copenhagen Plans

The White House is shrugging off the Climate-gate e-mails.   “I think there's no real scientific basis for the dispute of (global warming),” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said this week.    And Obama's top science adviser, John Holdren, downplayed the e-mails Friday, telling Congress that the controversy involves a small group of scientists and how they have interpreted and shared global warming data.

Think ‘Climate-Gate' Is Nonevent? Think Again

President Obama's climate czar, Carol M. Browner, and White House spokesman Robert Gibbs might think that Climate-gate is a nonevent, but on Monday Pennsylvania State University announced that it was launching an investigation into the academic conduct of Michael Mann, the school's Director of the Earth System Science Center. …  Dozens of researchers at other institutions could soon face similar investigations.

From Climate-gate to Google-gate to Who Was the Hacker Anyway?

Suddenly, though, on Monday December 1, Google stopped offering “climategate” as a choice to those who typed c-l-i and even to those who typed c-l-i-m-a-t-e-g-a-t. Strange.

NASA-Gate

What's become known as “Climate-Gate” may be about to explode on this side of the pond as well. Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, has threatened a lawsuit against NASA if by year-end the agency doesn't honor his FOI requests for information on how and why its climate numbers have been consistently adjusted for error

ClimateGate:  The 6 Most Dubious Claims About The Supposed “Global Warming Hoax”

Phi Beta Iota: For those who do not read, the six “myths” discussed in Arianna Huffington's blog will be just as credible as the documented lies and fraudulent misrepresentations of the International Committee on Climate Change (IPCC), which in our view should be abolished.  The UN System needs a brain that serves all elements of the UN System, not a carbon ponzi scheme scam that only serves a few hucksters and their lobbyists pals.  Intellectually, the six myth dismissals below are beneath contempt.  We challenge Arianna to a debate–anywhere, anytime, just send us an e-ticket and we will engage in “a conversation that matters.”  Respectfully.  It's time we all got smart again.

Interestingly, the fraud of Al Gore and the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) combine with the total ineptitude of the Nobel Peace Prize “Committee” to jointly demonstrate that the fragmentation of scientific, economic, and political knowledge has now become catastrophic, and that “top-down” elite organizations such as the Nobel Preace Prize Committee pretends to be, are so ignorant of reality as to be counter-productive.  Below is an illustration of our current vision.  As we suggested recently to key United Nations officials and a select number of Ambassadors in Washington, D.C., crisis is an opportunity for innovation.  Brazil, India, China, and Russia certainly understand this.  In Copenhagen, the leaders can choose to bury the IPCC and commit instead to creating the World Brain Institute with an embedded Global Game that connects all human minds to all relevant information in all languages all the time.
